Treatments

Veneers help cover small cracks, stains and other imperfections in the teeth. Each is made of a thin “shell” that looks and feels like normal tooth enamel. Most veneers are made of porcelain since this can be easily color-matched to blend in with your smile. Porcelain is also very durable and can easily last for years without needing a replacement.

Veneer Consultation

At Sharda Family Dentistry, Dr. Alok Sharda is trained to complete a variety of cosmetic dental procedures. Come in for a consultation and our dentist can complete a smile evaluation. This can help determine whether dental veneers are right for you, and we can even create a “mockup” for you to try on.

How Do Veneers Work?

Each dental veneer is designed with layers of very thin ceramic, which are combined to create a single veneer. The thinness of the veneer allows it to sit on top of the tooth while still blending in with the rest of your smile. When you get a veneer, our dentist will first need to prep the tooth and remove a small amount of enamel. By doing this, the restoration can fit correctly on top of the remaining enamel.

To attach the veneer to the tooth, we will first need to apply a resin on top of the tooth. Once the veneer is placed, a light will be used to harden the resin and create a strong bond.

Why Should I Get a Veneer?

There are many reasons why people get veneers. Most often, our dentist will recommend this treatment for patients with:

  • Gapping between teeth
  • Unusually shaped teeth
  • Teeth of noticeably different size or length
  • Stains or discoloration
  • Minor misalignment
  • Small fractures or cracks in the enamel

During your appointment, our dentist can go over your options for treatment and answer your questions.

Minimal-Prep and No-Prep Veneers

With these restorations, little to no enamel needs to be removed before attaching the veneer. These are often also more comfortable and more quickly applied. If you would prefer our minimal or no-prep veneers, let our dentist know.

Benefits of Veneers

Veneers work for many patients because they can be fitted to each individual tooth. When restorations are customized, they blend in better with your smile and are harder to detect. Dental veneers are also made of a durable porcelain, which is resistant to stains, so patients can drink coffee, tea and wine without worrying about ruining their new teeth. Finally, veneers take little to no prep work and remove far less enamel than other restoration appliances.

How to Maintain Veneers

Patients can clean, brush and floss their veneers just like they would their normal teeth. As usual, our dentist will recommend that you use a fluoride toothpaste as well as keep up with your regular dental appointments.

After your initial visit, our dentist may recommend a follow-up appointment. This is usually scheduled about a week later so we can determine if you are responding well to the veneer. If there are any negative reactions or problems with the restoration, our dentist can recommend treatment.
